FleetWood Creek Conservation Area

Fleetwood Creek is a great place for a hike or picnic. Secluded with beautiful scenery, 3 main trails and a lookout high up above a valley overlooking mixed hardwood and pine forests . Fleetwood Creek is managed by the Kawartha Lakes Conservation Authority.

I visited Fleetwood Creek on a beautiful sunny April day. As you can see from the pictures there are no leaves on the trees yet. But you can tell by looking that this would be an awesome fall visit. I can just imagine what the hardwoods would look like in the full fall colors.

The Valley Trail is a 2.2km loop offering visitors two ways to enjoy the area. An observation platform offers a spectacular view of the surrounding land, while the more adventuresome can also travel down into the valley. This is the first trail I visited and ate my lunch at the lookout platform with my son and friends who came along for the hike. After finishing up my lunch, I ventured down into the valley trail. The 2.2km hike is perfect. Not too long not too short and the path is in terrific condition.

Next we hopped into the car and drove a short distance to parking area B. This is where the east and west are located. Just a short distance from the parking lot on the 3km west trail, I was startled by a pheasant. You can almost step on the darn things before they decide to fly up into the forest. It scares the heck out of ya. But it was a pleasant and rewarding experience. I didn't walk the entire 3km west trail because I was short on time, but it too is in excellent condition and we were actually able to push a baby stroller through with no trouble at all.The path is on a gradual slope leading through open meadows and forests of giant beech, maple and hemlock trees.

The East trail, a 3km loop, leads through a dense cedar forest, then climbs up the valley slope. The trail continues through an open meadow, then winds back through the forest to the parking area. I did not walk this trail but it looks very nice and I plan on returning in the fall to see the colors.
